The GEN2PHEN Consortium, with participation from HUGO, P3G, Genome Canada, and Wellcome Trust, is organizing a high-level workshop on the topic of online identity for researchers, more specifically how to 'identify' researchers as they use or contribute to biomedical science on the Internet - a subject that is rapidly becoming a very hot topic.
This reflects our desire to optimise information flow and debate on this exciting topic, towards robust systems for online identity (or 'individual ID' ) usage on the web (see the online primer and whitepaper for further details). Such systems would enable activities such as;
- author/researcher disambiguation
- tracking and accrediting scientific contributions
- streamlined and equitable control of access to sensitive datasets
- and hence, more rapid release and effective use of biomedical information
Workshop details
Title: Identifying Researchers on the Biomedical Web (IRBW2009)
Place: Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Toronto International Airport, Canada
Date: evening May 13th to afternoon May 14th (following the Data Release meeting at the same venue)
Registration is now open!: if you wish to attend, please a) fill out the registration form (even if you already told us in E-mail correspondence that you are coming) and b) book your onsite accommodation at the venue website. We have negotiated a special room rate at the hotel venue, and we will provide food for the main day of the meeting. However, you will need to pay your own travel and accommodation costs.
NB For those also attending the Data Release meeting at the same venue on May 12-13: please note that i) this workshop follows the Data Release meeting and thus will start in the evening on the 13th, and ii) your accommodation will not be extended automatically; you have to arrange this with the hotel separately.
