At the University of Aveiro Bioinformatics research group we have been developing a new framework to ease Semantic Web application deployment in the life sciences: COEUS. This platform provides a "Semantic Web in a box" package with all the tools required to launch custom information systems.
With COEUS, developers have everything to "triplify" data from CSV, XML, SQL or SPARQL resources into an advanced semantic triplestore and to make data available through REST services, LinkedData or a SPARQL endpoint. Simplifying, anyone can "semantify" existing data into a streamlined (and semantic) mini-warehouse. Next, the available services can be used to deploy enhanced client-side applications, in desktop-, web- or mobile-based environments.
We envisage COEUS usage as a replacement for our own backend systems in WAVe/Diseasecard and for any other life sciences dataset or application. Variation data, genome wide association studies data, LRG information or nanopublication applications, among others, can be easily provided in semantic formats and through simple web services by taking advantage of COEUS flexibility.
We are actively looking for new collaborations on the project. Hence, if you are interested in this area or if you have any dataset/application that you want to publish online, get in touch so we can start launching an instance and deploying new apps.
All information on this project, COEUS - Semantic Web Application Framework, is located at http://bioinformatics.ua.pt/coeus/.
Looking forward for your feedback on this new framework!
