A series of OPS Community Workshops are a key vehicle for building the OPS community and encouraging wider engagement.
These OPS Workshops will be hosted twice-annually, and focus on different aspects of drug discovery, the technology used, data sharing, sustainability, licensing and practical applications.
Building on the success of the IRB2009 workshop which focused on biomedical research, the GEN2PHEN Consortium and Finland Center for Science (CSC) are organizing a 2-day international workshop "Identity in Research Infrastructure and Scientific Communication". IRISC2011 will bring together key stakeholders and experts and help foster collaboration, coordination and awareness in this area, not only in biomedicine and bioinformatics but in all areas of scientific research.
Agenda and other event details are available via the main workshop website: http://irisc-workshop.org.
The workshop will introduce comprehensive guidelines for design, semantic annotation and publishing of SOAP-based Web Services in the area of life sciences. The participants should be familiar with the basic concepts of Web Services, and should preferably already have produced or have been involved in the production of one or more such services.

A primary way that biologists interact with their data is through visualization systems, ranging from simple, stand-alone methods to complex, integrated software packages. However, the sheer volume and diversity of both data and of visualization systems presents an increasing challenge for biologists.
The complete genome sequence of hundreds of organisms has provided the parts list required for large-scale studies of organism, cell and gene function. High-throughput functional genomic technologies are generating enormous amounts of information describing the nature of genes, proteins and their interactions within the cell. Whole genome association studies are providing us with an increasing number or potential disease genes. Through the combined use of computational and experimental techniques, we are beginning to achieve comprehensive mappings of cellular and molecular networks.
The GEN2PHEN Consortium, with participation from HUGO, P3G, Genome Canada, and Wellcome Trust, is organizing a high-level workshop on the topic of online identity for researchers, more specifically how to 'identify' researchers as they use or contribute to biomedical science on the Internet - a subject that is rapidly becoming a very hot topic.
G2P Knowledge Centre is part of GEN2PHEN and funded by the Health Thematic Area of the Cooperation Programme of the European Commission
within the VII Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development.
